15 arrested after police raid dozens of properties in 24-hour Wolverhampton crackdown

Fifteen people were arrested on suspicion of various crimes during a 24-hour crackdown in Wolverhampton yesterday, January 15. More than 35 properties were raided in the city during the blitz.

It saw dozens of doors knocked off their hinges from early in the morning, right through into the evening. Police said those arrested were wanted on suspicion of various offences – which included 20 thefts from shops around the city.

A 44-year-old man was due to appear at Walsall Magistrates’ Court today charged with 14 theft offences from stores in the city. Other suspects were detained for failing to appear at court on charges ranging from theft of motor vehicles, to fraud.

Sergeant Andy Evans from Wolverhampton’s offender manager team said: “Many of our teams here in Wolverhampton joined us to ensure yesterday’s activity was a real success. Neighbourhood teams and partnership officers were with us as those who were wanted on suspicion of crimes, or for failing to appear at court to answer charges, were traced and detained.

“Many are now appearing in court today or in the coming days and it means that victims can be reassured that justice is being done. We’d say to anyone out there who knows they are wanted over a crime or for failing to attend court, we have you in our sights.”
