60 firefighters tackle huge Kingston house fire with two floors alight

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been tackling a house fire in Kingston upon Thames. The London Fire Brigade were called to the blaze on Southwood Avenue at 6.20am.

Three people thankfully managed to escape the building before the Brigade arrived and the LFB currently have no reports of any injuries. On arrival, firefighters found the fire in a two-storey detached house with a loft conversion.

Part of the loft space and first floor were alight. Fire crews battled for over an hour and a half but managed to bring the fire under control by 7.57am.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but the LFB said it is now under investigation.

An LFB spokesperson released a statement about the fire. It read: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been tackling a fire on Southwood Avenue, Kingston upon Thames.

“The fire was located in a detached house of two floors, with a loft conversion. Part of the loft space and first floor were alight. Three people left the property before the Brigade arrived. There are currently no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade received the first of seven calls reporting the fire at 0620, with Control Officers mobilising crews from New Malden, Surbiton, Kingston and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0757.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
