A man has died in a crash that left four others injured. Several cars and a lorry were involved in the collision on the A5 in Shrewsbury.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Upton Magna at 7.10am on Monday, January 13. Medics arrived to the man, who was a passenger in one of the cars, receiving CPR from bystanders and firefighters.
The man could not be saved and was confirmed dead a short time later. Three others from the same vehicle were taken to hospital, along with the driver of a second car, who had suffered ‘potentially serious’ injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity to the scene. A spokeswoman said: “When ambulance crews arrived on the A5 they found bystanders and fire colleagues administering CPR to a passenger from one car.
“The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support on the man but sadly he couldn’t be saved and was confirmed dead a short time later. A second man, a passenger, from the same car was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
“The driver and a third passenger from the same car were assessed for minor injuries before being taken to Princess Royal Hospital as a precaution. The driver of a second car, a man, suffered potentially serious injuries in the collision and he received treatment by ambulance staff before they conveyed him to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for onward care.”
The A5 Westbound remains closed due to investigation work being carried out between M54 J7 (Wellington, Telford and Wrekin) and A49 (Preston Island, Preston). Traffic reports suggest there is congestion to M54 J6 (Telford West).
