A52 drivers have been warned to prepare ahead of the closure of a busy roundabout near Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre. National Highways will shut the A52’s QMC roundabout for two weekends in January and February so it can remove and replace a beam in the route’s bridge, which was struck by a lorry carrying an excavator in 2018.
A highways spokesperson said: “Our bridge repairs are progressing well and we’re now preparing to remove the damaged beam and install the new one. To do this safely we need two full weekend closures.”
The first closure will take place from 8pm on Friday, January 24, until 6am on Monday, January 27. The second will take place between 8pm on Friday, February 7, to 6am Monday, February 10.
Ahead of the closures, which are similar to those enforced in October, the body warned: “We expect these routes to be busy so please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.”
The damage to the A52 bridge, which was hit by a lorry years ago, is expected to be fixed by summer 2025
National Highways advised motorists the closures could be changed at short notice. It has arranged contingency dates on the weekends between Friday, January 31, to Monday, February 3 and from Friday, February 14, to Monday, February 17, in case the works have to be rearranged.
The QMC bridge fix, and the closures associated with it, started in August 2024. The repairs are expected to be complete by summer 2025.
