Armed police descend to busy Chelmsford road as residents spot police lining street

Armed police were seen in Chelmsford late last night (January 6), after concerns were raised that a possible firearm was discarded by a member of the public. A woman called police after she believed that a ‘shiny object’, thought to be a weapon, was abandoned by an unidentified person last night.

In response, a unit of armed police attended the scene. Although no weapons were found, police are continuing their investigation, to ensure the area is safe for the public. Local residents witnessed several police cars on the New London Road, as the team arrived on the scene.

A spokesperson for Essex Police shared: “We were called shortly before 9pm on Monday January 6 to reports of an individual dropping a suspicious item on the ground in an underpass off Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.
