There have been a number of arrests made in the early hours across Cork City as Gardai target groups involved in recent disturbances linked to a long-running feud between rival groups based on the northside.
A significant Garda operation carried out early this morning – and backed by Armed Support Unit – saw raids on a number of properties and locations. The operation was in direct response to concerns over a series of incidents that have shocked communities on the northside of the city in recent days.
There were a number of arrests and weapons seized during the operation involving Gardai from a number of units and city stations.
A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo: “As part of an ongoing investigation into violent disorder incidents and related criminal activities that occurred in Cork city on the 6th January 2025, Gardaí conducted a search and arrest operation on Friday morning, 10th January 2025.
Gardaí from the Cork City Division assisted by the Armed Support Unit conducted searches at four residential properties in Cork over the course of the operation. A large quantity of weapons was recovered during the searches.”
Five individuals, all male ranging from late teens to twenties, have been arrested and conveyed to Garda Stations in the Southern Region.
One male has since been charged and is due to appear in Cork District Court this afternoon, Friday 10th January 2025.”
