A pair of Australian tourists was gutted after travelling over 10,000 miles from Adelaide to Edinburgh for cancelled Hogmanay festivities.
Kaleb Bowering and his partner left from South Australia for a few weeks of travel which concluded in Edinburgh for the world-renowned New Years festival.
The couple was “very upset” when the fireworks display was cancelled, an event they were particularly excited for which Kaleb said “definitely beats anything we get in Adelaide.”
Kaleb spent around $3000 AU (£1500) on accommodation in the UK after planning their trip to be in the capital for Hogmanay.
Kaleb said: “We always wanted to come to Edinburgh to catch up with some family.
We were able to arrange our trip to start from the bottom of the UK and drive up to Edinburgh for new years. We have always heard great things about Hogmanay and how good the event is including the fireworks.
We saw lots of TikToks for 2024 New Years so we had to come.”

Kaleb was most excited for the world-famous fireworks display, a show he said “definitely beats anything we get in Adelaide.”
The couple was “very upset” after events began to get cancelled.
Kaleb added: “After receiving a fine for our carpark and then getting the news of the Hogmanay being cancelled, we were very upset.
“It has taken a lot of money and time to be here, and to miss it was heartbreaking.
“We do understand that we cannot control the weather, but after seeing everyone else letting of fireworks and barely any wind New Year’s Eve was a bit disappointing.”
The couple was able to have a memorable night as they roamed the streets and watched people light firecrackers and dancing in the streets.
However, he shared: “We still wished we could have seen the whole event.”
