‘Bad Santas’ smash up Bath charity shop and cause thousands of pounds of damage

A charity shop in Somerset has been left in pieces after it was burgled on Christmas Day. Thieves broke in to the Bath Cats and Dogs Home’s shop, in George Street, Bath, on December 25, 2024, and caused extensive damage to the store.

The main door of the store was smashed in to allow the thieves to gain entry. As well as destroying the door, they took a donation box and raffle takings from the store.

The charity relies on donations from the public to enable them to rescue and rehabilitate cats and dogs. It is thought that the damage to the door will cost thousands of pounds to be replaced, which leaves less money for animal care.

The charity is appealing for any donations or support from the community, to help cover the cost of repairing the damaged shop so they can continue to care for their animals.

Jasmine Dyer, retail manager said: “It’s incredibly sad that anyone felt they needed to steal from a charity at Christmas. But just like the film Bad Santa they broke into the shop and took the presents. What’s worse, they caused some very expensive damage in the process.

“The shop relies on donations from the public and any money made helps us to rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats in need. It’s costing thousands to replace the window, which wipes out any profit.

“If anyone can afford to make a financial donation, that would be a huge help. And equally, if you’re decluttering post-Christmas, consider donating your items to us. We take stock donations at the shop and also at Bath Cats and Dogs Home itself at Claverton Down.”

Bath Cats and Dogs Home takes in over ten animals every week, so their catteries and kennels are always full and changing. There are a number of animals looking for their new forever home, which you can find here.
