Belfast Live readers have their say on what they really want to see happen in the city in 2025

Belfast Live readers have been having their say about what they’d like to see happening in the city in 2025.

We turned our attention to 2025 and what that could mean for Belfast at the weekend and asked readers to give us their thoughts – and as usual, you didn’t disappoint.

Our wee city already has plenty to shout about but some key things would improve life here for lots of people. Some things we really, really want to see finally happen this year included more housing in the city centre, an end to traffic congestion, better and later public transport and the transformation of more unused spaces.

We also called for fireworks at Halloween and New Year, the return of Belfast Culture Night, a new home for the Christmas Market and more Line of Duty filming.

In response to the article, you offered your own suggestions. One reader said: “Take our homeless people off the streets. There are plenty of empty places which could be used for them.”

A second reader called for “no more American food chains” while another told us: “Do something with that area of dereliction they’ve let North St, Donegal St become.”

A third reader had a few ideas: “Basically aim towards 15 minute city sector living. Make more local films for people to stay at home to watch. Expand the Christmas Market but limit access to those with a good social credit score. Entertain with a fireworks display on Halloween and New Year (I’d opt for an environmentally friendly light or drone show).”

A fourth added: “End the bus lane madness and the endless, soulless student accommodation builds. Do Culture Night again. Stop implementing decisions that clearly have zero benefit realisation..ie- the bus lanes.”

Other calls included the rebuild of Casement Park, clean streets and drugs off our streets.
