Bilston Road live as ‘major’ crash closes busy route

A ‘major’ crash has taken place in Wolverhampton overnight. Bilston Road has been closed in both directions from Stowheath Lane to Cable Street as a result of the collision.

West Midlands Metro posted about the incident at 3.18am on Tuesday, January 7. The early-hours post warned passengers that trams would be unable to operate between Priestfield and Wolverhampton from start of service.

Details of the vehicles involved or potential casualties were not yet clear. BirminghamLive has approached West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service for comment.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, there was heavy traffic in the area due to the road closure. Tram passengers have been told tickets would be accepted on National Express West Midlands’ 79 bus between Priestfield and Wolverhampton and on West Midlands Railway trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
