One person has been left with “serious injuries” following a crash in Birmingham city centre this afternoon. Newhall Street, a key route between the Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham city centre, was sealed off at around 2pm on Sunday, January 12.
A cordon was set up across part of Newhall Street near the BT Tower, with West Midlands Police cars and ambulance crews present. Newhall Street was cordoned off from Fleet Street to Lionel Street.
Police have not given any more details about the crash victim, other than it was a person who was rushed to hospital. West Midlands Police confirmed to BirminghamLive at 4:30pm that Newhall Street remained sealed off and bus diversions were in place.

West Midlands Police said in a short statement: “We are at the scene of a collision in Birmingham city centre. One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“Roads are closed with diversions in place. Bus routes have been diverted as a result, with road closures at Newhall Street from Great Charles Street Queensway to Fleet Street. Lionel Street to Livery Street is also closed. Please plan routes accordingly and avoid the area.”
BirminghamLive was at the scene on Sunday afternoon, where traffic appeared to be coping well with diversions. There was a damaged Uber and what appeared to be two other cars within the cordon. National Express West Midlands has said its number 101 service has been diverted as a result of the street closure. The No 101 travels between the city centre and Handsworth.
NX West Midlands posted on X: “Due to an incident on Newhall St/Lionel St, 101 will be diverted in both directions via: Colmore Row, Newhall St, Edmonds St, Margret St, Great Charles Queensway, Sand Pits, Great Charles St, Old Square, Constitution Hill. Apologies for any disruption.”
