Body found in Grand Union Canal in West London during police search for missing person

Police have discovered a body in the Grand Union Canal during a missing person search in West London.

Officers recovered the body at about 2pm yesterday (Wednesday, January 15) in Park Royal.

A nearby resident told MyLondon an emergency cordon was set up along the canal adjacent to Twyford Abbey Road at 4am in the morning.

They added a police underwater unit and forensic officers arrived shortly after 11am.

The Metropolitan Police has informed the alleged victim’s next of kin while formal identification is carried out.

The circumstances around the death remain under police investigation.

A force spokesperson said: “As part of an ongoing search for a missing person, police recovered a body in Grand Union Canal at approximately 2pm on Wednesday, January 15.

“While we await formal identification we are in contact with his next of kin. The circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation by officers from the North West BCU.”
