Body recovered from River Thames near Wapping in search for missing Ipswich man

A body has been recovered from the River Thames in the search for an Ipswich man who went missing last year. Gurbaksh Sually, who went by Simon, was last in the Bishopsgate and the Hackney area of London on November 23.

He was reported missing the following day. Although there had been no confirmed sightings, his family say the Met Police had told them Ms Sullay’s phone was active in Ipswich at about 2.30am on November 28, reports the Ipswich Star.

At the time, his brother Mohinder Sually told the news outlet: “We are all so stressed.

“We’ve been into all the bars, pubs and everywhere we can think of in Ipswich, people are being really helpful by putting up flyers and at first it feels positive, but two or three days in and we haven’t got anything concrete you start to feel really disheartened and worried.”

However, a body has since been recovered from the River Thames near Wapping. Mr Sually’s family has been informed of the development, although no formal identification has taken place.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Police appealed for information to locate 37-year-old Gerbaksh Simon Sually who was last seen on 23 November in the Bishopgate and Hackney area of London.

“On 13 December the body of a man was recovered from the River Thames near Wapping.

“Formal identification awaits but we have updated Gerbaksh’s family with this development.”
