Boy, 15, seriously injured in hospital after third hit-and-run in Glasgow/Paisley area

Police are investigating another hit and run after a spate of incidents over the festive period left one person dead and two people injured in hospital.

A teenager was found seriously injured in Barrhead having been struck by a car which failed to stop at around 10.55pm on New Year’s Day. The 15-year-old boy was riding an electric bike on Aurs Drive in the town.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition is described as serious. The car involved is believed to be a silver Vauxhall Astra and a major police investigation is now underway to trace the vehicle.

It comes as officers are already investigating a fatal hit and run in Paisley on New Year’s Eve. A 70-year-old woman – named today as Elizabeth Kennedy – was struck by a white car on the town’s Barrhead Road at around 7pm.

And on Christmas Day, a 53-year-old woman was knocked down on Croftfoot Road in Glasgow’s Castlemilk. The car – possibly a dark grey Ford S-Max – briefly stopped before the two occupants drove away in the vehicle.

They are described as Asian males with Scottish accents. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, although her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. All three incidents are within a 10-mile radius in south Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

Appealing for information in the Barrhead hit and run, Sergeant Ally Wright said: “We have now confirmed that a car was involved in this incident and our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have seen the incident, the car or have information which could assist us to get in touch. I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cam footage or private CCTV to contact us.”

Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Jan MacColl said: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family, friends and everyone affected by this tragic incident. Officers will continue to support her family as our inquiries progress.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have seen a white car in the area around that time, possibly with damage, to come forward. We would also ask anyone with dashcam footage that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.“
