Brazen fly-tippers throw ‘kebab shop’ fridge off back of a lorry and onto residential Essex road

In a shocking display of brazen fly-tipping captured on video, a hefty ‘kebab shop’ fridge was dumped on a road in Dagenham, Essex, during the night. James Gamble reported the loud incident after his doorbell camera picked up footage of individuals pushing the fridge from a truck, sending it crashing onto the pavement.

Local man Colin Aylward, 52, dismayed by the ongoing fly-tipping on his street, notified both the council and police. However, subsequent footage shows workers only moving the discarded appliance to nearby grass.

Disappointed, Mr. Aylward recounted that despite his report to the authorities, the response was underwhelming with the police dropping their investigation. “Both the council and the police don’t want to know,” he lamented.

The local added, “People are always dumping stuff here all the time.” The incident that disturbed Mr. Aylward’s night took place at 11:52 pm on Tuesday, 07/01. “I heard a bang and thought it was fireworks,” he said, recounting the moment. “They were still out there and I saw them drive off.”

Further discussion with a neighbour revealed the supposed origin of the fridge. “I spoke to my neighbour and she said [the fridge] came from a kebab shop on Roman Road,” Mr. Aylward noted. He added: “I reported it to police but they said they weren’t going to do anything.”

To add insult to injury, the only action taken came late at night when two council workers arrived, yet their efforts stopped short of removing the nuisance: “About one o’clock in the morning, two council workers came – but they just rolled it along. They rolled it onto the grass, swept up the glass and left it there.”

The next day, CCTV captured images of the fridge being swooped into a red van, likely for scrap metal. Another clip from 2020 displayed a white van spewing trash out its open back while driving along.

Mr Aylward, whose lineage has resided on this street for generations, lamented the area’s decline, particularly in recent times. “It was lovely in the 80s when I was a kid,” he reminisced.”It has turned into an absolute s******e. It’s just filth. No one cares.”

Barking and Dagenham council did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
