A burglar barged her way into a “vulnerable” friend’s home knocking him to the ground leaving him with a head injury.
Marianne Allinson, 43, stormed her way into the Redcar home with two other females on the evening of July 4, 2024, after “aggressively” banging on the man’s door. He was awoken by the knocking and headed downstairs to find the three females at his door.
However, shortly after answering, Allinson pushed past him causing him to fall to the floor and suffer a head injury. Teesside Crown Court heard as he lay bleeding he went to call the police but the defendant snatched the mobile from him.
The two other females searched his property stealing £10 in change before all three fled. Allinson, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary following the incident which saw her betray her friend of over 20 years.
Prosecuting the case on Monday, Tabitha Buck said it was around 9.25pm when the three females attended the property and asked to use the man’s internet, she said: “[Name of victim] was in bed when he heard aggressive knocking at the front door of his property. He attended downstairs and observed Marianne Allinson and two unknown females. He stated that the females were asking to use his internet which he said he didn’t have. He was blocking the door so the females could not get into his property.
“At this stage Ms Allinson pushed past him into the property, he fell to the floor and felt something hit his head causing an injury and bleeding.”
Ms Buck said all three females went inside his home as he tried to call 999 but the defendant took the phone from him. The prosecutor said the gang noticed he was bleeding and ran away.
The victim suffered a cut to the left side of his head and needed treatment. The court heard on his return home from hospital he noticed £10 in change had been stolen from the living room table.
In a victim personal statement he said he has been left feeling anxious, Ms Buck said: “He states he has known the defendant for over 20 years originally considering her a friend but not anymore. He’s become very anxious, he doesn’t want to leave his home anymore.”
The court heard the defendant was arrested but originally denied matters stating she had gone to see the defendant “legitimately”. She claimed the victim became “aggressive” and fell but later admitted the burglary.
Gary Wood, defending, told the court Allinson had attended intending to “legitimately” ask for money. He said she’s has used her time on remand wisely working with the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Team and has been given a job on the prison wing.
However, Judge Richard Anthony Bennett said she must be sentenced to prison. Summarising the case, he said : “When he was knocked to the floor the two other females began searching his house and took £10 in cash. He was left with an injury to his head. There was targeting of a vulnerable victim.
“All three of you left having seen that your victim was bleeding. You left [name of victim] feeling anxious with headaches and he also lost out financially, it has had an affect on his personal and social life.”
The defendant has 53 convictions for 97 and was jailed for 22 months
