A burglary suspect in a Staffordshire town climbed on a roof after police were called to the scene and remained there to the following year! Staffordshire Police were alerted to a man attempting to break into a property in Cross Street in Kettlebrook, Tamworth, shortly before 10.30pm on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31).
Police officers arrived at the scene in the Staffordshire town and found the 33-year-old man of no fixed abode had climbed onto a roof. There was then a stand-off with the suspect refusing to come down.
He saw the New Year in on the roof, after refusing to speak to officers. He is also alleged to have damaged the roof.

But as 2025 broke, he was then talked down at 1.10am on New Year’s Day. He was then arrested for several offences, including wasting police time.
A spokesperson for the Tamworth Police said: “On New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31) at around 10.25am we received a report of a male attempting to break into a property in Cross Street, Kettlebrook.
“Upon police arrival, the male had climbed up on the roof and refused to come down or engage with officers. In doing so, he caused damage to the roof. By 1.10am on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1), the male was safely brought down from the roof.
“The 33-year-old male, of no fixed abode, was arrested for criminal damage, causing a public nuisance and wasting police time. He has been remanded in custody to next appear in court on Friday, January 10.”
