Bus Éireann investigating crash involving two buses in Cork city centre

Bus Éireann is investigating the circumstances of a crash between two of its vehicles on one of Cork’s busiest streets last night.

The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 pm on Patrick’s Street and the transport operator confirmed that no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

The crash shattered the glass of the secondary exit door on one of the buses, and the second vehicle sustained some minor structural damage.

Both vehicles were taken out of service following the incident, and passengers were accommodated aboard the next available service.

Traffic in the area was unaffected and both vehicles were able to leave the scene shortly after the crash occurred. Bus Éireann has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said: “Bus Éireann can confirm that a minor collision occurred today between two of our vehicles on Patrick Street. There were no reported injuries and passengers onboard were accommodated on the next available services. There was no impact to further services as a result of this incident.

“The safety of our passengers, staff and the public is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann and we are investigating how this occurred, as per standard procedure.”

The transport operator has been operating at a reduced capacity in Cork city in recent months following the release of a new temporary timetable in late October.

Approximately 800 weekday services and around 250 weekend services have been cut on routes: 202, 202a, 205, 208 and 220. Bus Éireann is working to recruit and train new drivers in order to fill the schedule gaps.
