An investigation has revealed a cabin crew member missed a flight from Aberdeen Airport after fracturing a bone in their foot by dropping a metal bin onto it.
In a report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), investigators found the aircraft departed from the Granite City transport hub on October 10, 2024 without the injured crew member.
Four cabin crew members were onboard the aircraft when the incident occurred, which happened when the worker was removing the bin liner from the metal galley bin.
A flight dispatcher handing them a document had distracted the cabin crew member when they dropped the bin onto their foot, leaving them requiring medical attention.
Investigators have since recommended that crew use galley trolley bins in future rather than the galley fixed bin.
The report by the AAIB noted: “During the aircraft turn-around, a member of cabin crew was removing the bin liner from the metal galley bin when they were distracted by a flight dispatcher handing them a document.
