Cambridgeshire man who died in crash suffered cardiac arrest

A man who died after a crash in Cambridgeshire had suffered a cardiac arrest. The opening of an inquest into the death of Muhammad Faizan after a head-on crash along the A605 near Coates on December 21, 2024, took place on Thursday (January 9).

Coroner Caroline Jones said Muhammad Faizan went into cardiac arrest after the crash, and that a post mortem examination found the provisional cause of death to be “severe blunt force trauma”. The coroner also described how another vehicle appears to have veered into the oncoming lane, directly into the path of Mr Faizan’s car.

Mr Faizan seems to have swerved to avoid the vehicle, at the same point that the driver returned to the correct lane, causing a head-on crash. His death was confirmed just after 9.10pm on Saturday, December 21.

A passenger in the car with Mr Faizan was also taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver and sole occupant of another car, 45-year-old Owen Bird, from March, suffered minor injuries.

Mr Bird was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
