An elderly man was cut free from the wreckage of a crash after his car ploughed into a house in Stoke-on-Trent. Emergency services were sent to Harpfield Road in Trent Vale after the black Mitsubishi L200 struck the property.
Firefighters helped extricate the driver – who is in his 70s – before paramedics took him to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The alarm was raised following the smash on the southbound stretch, which happened at 9.30am on Sunday (January 5).
The gas supply to the house has been stopped while ‘assessments continue’. In a statement released today (January 7), a Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Harpfield Road in Trent Vale, following reports of a collision. Officers attended and found a black Mitsubishi L200 involved in a collision with a house.
“The driver, a man in his 70s, was assisted out of the vehicle by firefighters and checked over by paramedics at the scene. No one inside the house was hurt.
“We advised the local authority of the collision and a structural engineer has attended the scene. The vehicle has since been recovered from the scene.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called by the fire service to reports of a road traffic collision on Harpfield Road at 9.36am on Sunday. An ambulance and paramedic officer responded to the scene. The driver of a car, a man, was given treatment on scene for non serious injuries before being conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further care.”
