Charge dropped in Guisborough death by careless driving case as accused will no longer stand trial

The prosecution has offered no evidence against a man initially charged with causing death by careless driving.

Gurchan Singh, 40, was set to stand trial after he hit pedestrian Craig Dixon when he was driving on Westgate in Guisborough, on December 2, 2022. Mr Dixon was rushed to hospital but he died a short time later. His dog Duchess also died in the incident.

Singh was due at Teesside Crown Court for his trial on Monday, January 13, but the prosecution offered no evidence against him days beforehand, the court confirmed on Thursday. Singh, of Skiddaw Court in Nunthorpe, was released by the court and he will face no further action.

Mr Dixon lived on Allison Street in Guisborough. The truck driver was 39 when he died. Tributes were paid to the ‘kind, funny, and supportive’ dad. He had promised his two daughters that he would take them to The Riverside Stadium for Boro’s match against Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day, 2022. Fans rallied to support the family and paid tribute to the fellow supporter during the match.

In the 39th minute of the match, signifying the age he was when he passed away, fans stood up and begin to applaud while the game was under way. Chants of ‘T-T-Teessider’ rang around the ground as thousands of fans joined in the tribute avid Boro fan.
