Coleraine coastguard has launched a New Year’s appeal for volunteers, with an open night set to take place next week.
The organisation is offering full training to help volunteers willing to step up “at any time, during day or night and in all weathers” as a Coastguard Rescue Officer.
The open night takes place at the Coastguard Station on Gateside Road in the Co Derry town on January 16.

In an online appeal, a Coleraine spokesperson said: “Do you have what it takes to search, to rescue and to save? HM Coastguard is looking to recruit Coastguard Rescue Officers for the Coleraine team.
“As a Coastguard Rescue Officer you will be trained and equipped to carry out search and rescue operations along our coastline – at any time during the day or night and in all weathers.
“Coastguard Rescue Officers are volunteers trained in missing persons search, water rescue, rope rescue, helicopter operations and much more.
No experience is necessary as full training will be given (though coastal and / or outdoor experience is desirable).”
The spokesperson said applicants will need to hold a full UK drivers’ licence and be in good health. Applicants must also live / work within 15 minutes of the Coastguard station and have good availability to attend callouts and monthly team training.”
The appeal added: “Want to find out more? Come to our Open Night at 1930 on Thurs 16th January at the Coastguard Station, Gateside Business Park, Gateside Rd, Coleraine.”
