Council issues gritting update as Stoke-on-Trent drivers urged ‘be careful’

Gritters have been out across the city after temperatures plummeted and heavy snow fell during rush-hour. Traffic had come to a stand-still on key routes when the wintry blast returned this morning.

Now Stoke-on-Trent City Council has urged drivers ‘please be careful if you need to travel’. Meanwhile the local authority says its gritting teams were out overnight – and again from 9am this morning.

Motorists have claimed some side roads have been perilous while StokeonTrentLive reported last night how eye-witnesses claimed seven cars had been involved in a collision on Eastwood Road in Hanley. Meanwhile on Plex Street in Tunstall photographs showed at least two vehicles involved in separate collisions.

Earlier this week and Brookwood Drive in Meir was reportedly shut off after a number of collisions. An update on Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Facebook page states: “Our gritting teams were out overnight – making two gritting runs to help keep the city moving

“They’ve been out again from 9am this morning. Please be careful if you need to travel.”
