Council says sorry as traffic lights out of action in Stoke roadworks

Drivers are facing a nightmare on one of Stoke-on-Trent’s busiest roads – after temporary traffic lights went on the blink. Stoke-on-Trent City Council started working on the City Road / Church Street bridge over the A500, in Stoke, from Monday, January 13.

The roadworks are expected to remain in place until Monday, April 14. But the temporary traffic lights have already broken down.

A council spokesman said: “We want to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the temporary traffic signals currently being out of service. This issue is due to unexpected electrical faults within the system. Our team is actively working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we address this issue. Thank you for bearing with us – we’ll provide updates as soon as we have more information. Please drive carefully in the area and follow alternative signs where necessary.”

The council has described the works as ‘essential’.

The council spokesman added: “These works are necessary to ensure the safety and improvement of our infrastructure. The majority of the works will take place under lane closures with temporary traffic lights in place and road closures will be required at certain stages of the work.”
