Court update on man involved in five-hour standoff in Coventry

A man who was allegedly involved in a five-hour standoff has appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court. Robert Tallis was arrested following the incident on Villa Road in Radford.

Police swarmed Villa Road at the junction with Radford Road on Friday, January 3. Neighbours dialled 999 after a man was seen on the roof of a property, as reported by CoventryLive.

Negotiations were held over a five-hour period, and 36-year-old Robert Tallis was arrested. He was charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing, West Midlands Police said.

Tallis was also accused of robbery and stalking offences in relation to an investigation led by Warwickshire Police. He appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court yesterday (January 6).

No pleas were entered. Tallis was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday, February 4.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We have charged a man with a number of offences after an incident in Coventry. Robert Tallis was arrested on Friday (January 3) following an incident on Villa Road in Radford.

“Tallis has now been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing. He has also been charged with two offences relating to a Warwickshire Police investigation.”
