Coventry café open since 1990s to close ahead of City Centre South

A long-established Coventry café will be closing ahead of the multi-million-pound regeneration project City Centre South. Snax in the City will be leaving Hertford Street today (January 8).

Snax in the City opened in August 2012 but has been on Hertford Street since 1997. It was previously known as Gingers Café and Godiva Café.

Sahil Aggarwal helmed Snax in the City for more than two decades, during which time it received an impressive four-star rating on Tripadvisor. It was also awarded a five-star hygiene rating when it was inspected by the Food Standards Agency in March 2024.

It will now be closing as part of the multi-million-pound regeneration project City Centre South. Shops on Hertford Street, Market Way, and the Bull Yard will soon be demolished.

Mr Aggarwal hopes to reopen Snax in the City at some point this year and is ‘actively looking’ for new premises in the city centre, the 36-year-old told CoventryLive. Staff have been relocated for the time being.

Speaking to CoventryLive, Mr Aggarwal said: “We have many customers who used to come to this café with their parents and now come with their kids, so they are customers for three generations.”

He continued: “We are actively looking to relocate this popular breakfast café in Coventry. We are retaining the staff and offering them employment in our other stores.”
