Crash man who left scene could have serious head injury say police in bid to get him to seek help

Police are urging a man hit by a car in a Leicestershire town to get medical help after he left the scene before emergency services arrived. The ambulance service was called after a Mini Countryman hit the pedestrian on the A511 Stephenson Way, in Coalville, yesterday evening (Wednesday, January 15).

It is believed the pedestrian suffered a head injury in the crash, which happened at about 6.45pm on the stretch between Thornborough Road and Hermitage Road, near the Whitwick and Coalville Leisure Centre. Leicestershire Police carried out a search of the area but was unable to find the man.

In an appeal, Sergeant Kyle Taylor said: “We suspect this man may have sustained a serious head injury and we would urge him to seek medical assessment urgently. Inquiries have been carried out in the surrounding area, but we have been unable to trace him.

“He is described as wearing a black gilet, black top and blue tracksuit bottoms and spoke with a foreign accent. We are clearly concerned for this man’s welfare and we would strongly urge he attends a hospital or an urgent care centre to be checked over.

“As our inquiries continue into the collision, anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it and hasn’t spoken to us is also asked to get in touch.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 511 of January 15 or visit the Leicestershire Police website.
