Cumbernauld gas leak leaves road closed ‘for safety’ as emergency repairs underway

A busy road in Cumbernauld has been closed for at least a week following a gas leak.

The issue on Blackthorn Road was reported on Monday, January 6, with emergency repairs currently being carried out. As a result, and for “everyone’s safety”, the road has been closed between its junction with Rowan Road and Moss Road.

Gas distribution company SGN say no supplies have been affected and that they are working to complete the repairs and reopen the road. Meanwhile, diversions are in place for motorists heading in that direction.

Spokesperson Dan Brown said: “We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network in Blackthorn Road, Cumbernauld.

“For everyone’s safety, we’ve closed Blackthorn Road between its junction with Rowan Road and Moss Road. A signed diversion route is in place for motorists.

“All going well, we hope to complete repairs, restore the road surface and reopen Blackthorn Road as normal early next week.”
