A popular takeaway which has been a part of a community for decades has closed its doors. Dragon Boat, located in Mumbles Road in Mumbles, has gained plenty of loyal customers through the years, returning time and time again for its Cantonese, Peking and Chinese dishes.
Open from Thursday to Sunday, it offered up a varied menu including chicken, beef, roast pork, curry, egg foo young, king prawn, chow mein, chop suey and vegetarian dishes.
But on January 6, it closed its doors for a final time, saying the decision had come “with a heavy heart”, and thanking customers for their support through the years, while not divulging the reason for the closure. For the latest restaurant reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here.
A message to customers, signed by Sin Weng Chew, read: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Dragon Boat. Your support has been our guiding light, and we are immensely grateful for the love and loyalty you have shown us over the years. Every meal shared, every smile exchanged has been a moment to treasure. Your presence has made our journey truly special.
“As we bid farewell to this chapter, we hold onto the memories close to our hearts and look forward to the possibility of reuniting with you in future. Thank you for being a part of our Dragon Boat family.”
Many customers were left “gutted” by the news. One wrote: “Sorry to hear this. Been using the old Dragon Boat (on and off) since the late Suzie Wong was at the helm in the 80s, I always thought it was owned by the gent with the large jade signet ring who always seemed to be in the front taking the orders. Always a good meal, good luck and thank you.”
Another added: “Gutted. Gorgeous food and lovely staff. All the best for the future.” And a third wrote: “So sorry to hear this. My favourite takeaway in the area! Will definitely miss your great food but wish you well for the future.”
One long-running customer said: “OMG Cant Believe That Been Having Food From Them For 40 Years Gutted Had Food Last Night Thought Rojer Was A Bit Less Talkative Than Normal But Did Not Say Any thing About Them Closing Like To Thank Vivienne And All There Lovely Staff All The Best And Hope They Will Be Back In The Future Hope You Enjoy Your Chocolates I Sent You Last Night Guys Merry Christmas Happy New Year To You All.”
