Customers saddened over closure of long-established Coventry café say it will be ‘missed’

Customers have shared their sadness over the closure of a much-loved café in Coventry. Snax in the City closed last Wednesday (January 8).

It opened in August 2012 but has been on Hertford Street since 1997 and was previously known as Gingers Café and Godiva Café. Now, after more than two decades, they have closed for good.

Owner Sahil Aggarwal said he decided to close the long-established café due to rising rates in the city centre and the multi-million-pound regeneration project City Centre South. Shops on Hertford Street, Market Way, and the Bull Yard will soon be bulldozed.

Mr Aggarwal hopes to reopen Snax in the City at some point this year and is ‘actively looking’ for new premises in the city centre, the 36-year-old told CoventryLive. Staff have been relocated for the time being.

Residents shared their sadness following the closure of Snax in the City on Hertford Street. Many said the long-established city centre-based café will be ‘missed.’

Matt Moore said: “It is a shame! We need more cafés like this, I hope they find a new location.”

Cara Wilkinson commented: “Another one bites the dust, I used Annies a lot and Snax, there will be no cafés left at this rate, but saying that, there will be no shops soon either.”

Diane Golder-Walker said: “Will miss our breakfasts and cannot wait for you guys to reopen in a new location.”

Owner Mr Aggarwal said: “Just a big thank you to the Snax team and customers who were always a support, especially in those struggling years after COVID. Your regular custom and support helped us to survive all those years when most businesses closed.”
