A man from Devon has been charged with making threats to Jess Phillips. It comes after the Labour safeguarding minister was criticised by X owner Elon Musk.
Jack Bennett, 39, is charged with sending malicious communications to three people including the Birmingham Yardley MP. They were allegedly sent between April 2024 and January 2025.
Mr Musk previously said that Ms Phillips “deserves to be in prison” for denying requests for the Home Office to lead a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham. He also branded her a “rape genocide apologist”.
Bennett, from Seaton, has been released on bail. He is set to appear at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 18.
Earlier today (Monday, January 6), Sir Kier Starmer suggested that a “line has been crossed” with comments that have led to threats against the minister “and others”.
