A “dine and dash” duo left bosses of a family-owned Italian eatery furious after they bolted without settling their £83 tab. The pair ditched Belluno, an Italian restaurant in Newton St Cyres, Devon, leaving the gobsmacked owners no choice but to put CCTV images on Facebook, sparking outrage.

The incident happened Thursday, January 9 at night night when the couple took a so-called “ciggie break” but never returned. Fuming over the dine-and-ditch, Belluno Italian Restaurant – Newton St Cyres slammed them on Facebook, posting: “We love being part of the friendly community here, but last night this couple come and eat at Belluno and they did a ‘runner’ after the pretending they are smoking.”

“We completely understand that lots of people are struggling with the cost of living, but we work really hard as a family business and stealing from anyone, never mind a business, is just not acceptable. Their bill was £83.45.”

“If anyone know these people please let us know,” reports the Express. The post was shared more than 1,500 times with nearly 1,090 comments.

One person wrote: “The continued degradation of society never ceases to amaze me! The hospitality sector is really taking big hits from Labour and it’s citizens. PM me I’ll settle the bill.”

Another said: “I’ve never been , but I’ll book our family in. It won’t undo what’s been done but hopefully will drive a little turnover.”

And a third posted: “It’s terrible how some people abuse hospitality.

“Personally, I wouldn’t want to pay as I order however, I would be quite happy to surrender a credit card or similar, or have a nil cost transaction to capture the payment details.”

It also emerged that the pair parked in a side road, seemingly attempting to avoid detection from outside CCTV cameras.
