‘Dishonest and disrespectful’ social media claims lead Leicestershire officer to misconduct hearing

A former Leicestershire Police constable has been summoned before a fast-tracked misconduct hearing to answer to accusations of “dishonest” and “disrespectful” social media posts. The man, who has since resigned from the force, is alleged to have breached the force’s social media policy.

Leicestershire Police claims the then officer’s actions “lacked respect for members of the public” and were also “dishonest” and “deliberately misleading”. The man allegedly intended his identity as an officer “to be concealed”, which the force said could “undermine confidence” in policing.

The misconduct allegedly happened in May last year. If the claims are found proven, the man’s actions would constitute a breach of the standards of professional behaviour expected by the force, Leicestershire Police said. These include those of honesty and integrity; authority, respect and courtesy; orders and instructions; and creditable conduct.

Chief constable Rob Nixon has ordered that the man remain anonymous. This is for “welfare reasons”, the force said.
