A series of closures will be taking place on key roads around the M2 throughout January and February for planned bridge works. Repairs and maintenance are already underway on the bridge that crosses the M2 at Painter’s Forstal in Faversham.
Having begun on January 6, these works will continue for the remainder of the month and are due to be completed on Friday, February 7. During this time, the bridge will be closed for all hours of the day – though pedestrian access is maintained.
Painter’s Forstal Road is shut as well between Hanslett’s Lane and Water Lane. A signed diversion is in place in both directions via Water lane, London Road, Brogdale Road and Eastling Road.
National Highways said: “Work includes repairs to the bridge, including parapet replacements and installation of vehicle restraint systems. This work is critical to maintaining and improving safety.”
Moreover, from Monday (January 20), repairs will begin at the bridge crossing the M2 at Maidstone Road in Gillingham. Crews will be replacing parapets and installing safety barriers, which requires the bridge to shut for a total of five weeks.
The closure will be in place until Friday, February 21. Maidstone Road will be shut from the junction of Wigmore Road, and Deanwood Road to Kemsley Street Road, 24 hours a day.
National Highways advised: “Escorted access within the closure will be maintained for businesses and properties which usually have direct access off Maidstone Road: please go to the closure point (there may be a short wait while we make it safe to pass).” While the route is closed, a signed diversion in both directions will be in place via Wigmore Road, Hoath Way (A278), Hempstead Road, Hempstead Valley Drive, Hempstead Road, Lidsing Road, Forge Lane, and The Street.
A stretch of the M2 will also see overnight closures this week between Wednesday (January 15) and Friday (January 17). Full details on this and all other roadworks impacting Kent’s major motorways and A-roads can be found here.
