Dog rescued from ‘significant’ Cambridgeshire house fire as cause remains unknown

A dog was rescued from a ‘significant’ Cambridgeshire house fire on Tuesday (December 31). The cause of the fire at the Peterborough property remains unknown, according to the fire service.

Crews from Stanground, Dogsthorpe, and Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a fire in Ledham, Orton Brimbles, Peterborough at 10.27pm on December 31. They arrived to find the ground floor of a house ‘well alight’ after a shed fire spread to the rear of the house.

A fire service spokesperson said: “One dog was rescued from the property by the fire service, and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire was accidental. Due to the significant amount of damaged caused by the fire, the exact cause is unknown.”

Crews used hose reels, small gear, and a short extension ladder to extinguish the fire. They also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to dampen down the affected area.
