Drivers stuck in two-mile A53 queue as works get underway

Motorists are this morning snarled up in a two-mile long queue as roadworks began on the A53. Temporary lights are currently running in Endon – which has sent queues all the way back to Baddeley Green.

And this morning’s rush-hour has seen a queue of around two miles with motorists coming to a stop near to Baddeley Green Lane. It comes as three-way temporary lights have gone up on Leek Road at the junction with Park Lane and Hallwater.

According to roadworks monitoring site One Network the scheme is being overseen by Cadent – and could go on until Friday night. These are not the only roadworks running in North Staffordshire which are causing issues for drivers.

Motorists are also being warned of the following:

  • Water works underway on King Street on the Longton and Fenton border set to run until this evening;
  • National Grid are currently carrying out works on Bucknall New Road in Hanley until tonight;
  • Works on Snow Hill in Shelton at the junction of Cutts Street until some point today;
  • National Grid have set up lights on Scotia Road near Scotia Business Park in Tunstall – with temporary lights running until Friday;
  • Telecommunications works on Turnhurst Road in Packmoor today;
  • In Biddulph there are temporary lights on Halls Road (today only), St John’s Road (today only) and on Congleton Road until this evening;
  • Emergency gas works on Mayne Street in Hanford until January 20;
  • Telecommunications works on Tean Road in Cheadle until tomorrow night.
