Drivers told stay away from Stoke-on-Trent rat-run as ‘cars left in ditch’

Motorists are being advised to stay away from a well-used city rat-run after cars were ‘left in the ditch’. The plunging temperatures and frozen snow has reportedly resulted in ‘lots of black ice’ on Redhills Road – which connects Birches Head and Sneyd Green.

The narrow route, with ditches at either side, is a well-used one for motorists looking to dodge queues at Milton lights. However during last night’s rush-hour and motorists took to social media to advise fellow drivers to stay away.

Last night and witnesses say ‘multiple vehicles’ had been left in the ditch. Sneyd Green councillor Laura Carter says she has been contacted over the stretch.

She wrote on Facebook earlier today: “I received a lot of communications about Redhills Road yesterday. Avoid using this road if you can. There’s lots of black ice and many cars came off the road yesterday.

“Please find an alternative route via Milton, Sneyd Green or Birches Head. Drive safe, folks.”
