Edinburgh coffee lovers to enjoy free drink as viral chain Blank Street opens

A popular chain is set to launch their first Scottish store, handing out free drinks to Edinburgh passersby for the opening.

Blank Street, which found a ‘cult following’ online, launches on Victoria Street on January 25 – with a second store set for Princes Street in February. The chain was created in 2020 in Brooklyn, and has gained thousands of followers on social media.

They’re offering up free drink tickets to add a ‘little spark to a cold commute’ with shoppers able to pick up a blueberry matcha or a daydream latte.

Blank Street say they serve a ‘clean, natural and high quality’ menu with ‘top of the range’ coffees.

A spokesperson for Blank Street said: “Blank Street is coming to Edinburgh with the Blank Street Express Line, an immersive tram stop pop-up, designed to inject some magic into the mundane.

“To add a little spark to a cold daily commute, Blank Street will be offering free drinks to passersby. Commuters will collect a ticket and choose to try one of two of Blank Street’s fan-favourites – Blueberry Matcha or Daydream Latte.

“Commuters will be able to perch in the waiting area of the tram stop for a rest or strike their best pose for photos. Every ticket from the tram will be stamped and can be redeemed for a discounted drink at either of the new Blank Street stores on Victoria Street or Princes Street.

“The pop-up will be open at the intersection between Princes Street and Castle Street from Friday 24th January (8am-6pm) to Saturday 25th January (10am-6pm).”

The Edinburgh store is the first for Blank Street in Scotland. Their Victoria Street shop opens on January 25, with the Princes Street store launching in February.

Blank Street bosses added: “We believe that rituals matter, and that great rituals enrich your life. That’s why we invest so much time perfecting every detail in the Blank Street experience.

“When we started Blank Street, we set out to reimagine what a coffee chain could be – offering something never done before: speciality grade coffee, at scale, in beautiful modern spaces.”

Celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter and Molly-Mae Hague are also known to be fans. Sabrina Carpenter was in the UK earlier this year promoting the release of her single Espresso.

In a nod to the title, she picked up a shift at one of London’s Blank Street Coffee stores and served up dozens of free espresso’s.
