Edinburgh RNLI crews dispatched after group ‘cut off by the tide’

Edinburgh RNLI crews were dispatched on Saturday after a group of people became stranded off the coast.

RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat said their first shout of 2025 saw their lifeboat team sent to Cramond Island. Three people were ‘cut off by the tide’ and were stuck on the island.

The group were taken to Cramond Village, and handed into the care of the South Queensferry Coastguard Team.

RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat posted to Facebook: “Launching to our first shout of 2025.

“At 3.10pm our team was tasked to 3 people cut off by the tide on Cramond Island. The casualties were taken to Cramond Village to be left in the care of the South Queensferry Coastguard Team.

“If planning a visit to Cramond Island, we advise you to check the safe crossing times which can be found on our website, by texting CRAMOND to 84100 and on signage at the beginning of the causeway.

“If you find yourself in difficulty, or you spot anyone else in danger, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”

Only a few weeks ago, RNLI crews were dispatched to Cramond Island when a group of nine people and a dog were ‘cut off by the tide’. The nine individuals were ‘very cold’ when the RNLI Queensferry crew arrived.

The lifeboat took them back to Cramond, where they were passed into the care of coastguard teams.

The RNLI added: “As winter temperatures drop, please wrap up warm and be prepared for changes in weather.

“There is no rest for our operational team as we move into the festive period, volunteers are still on call 24/7 and are ready to respond when needed.”
