Edinburgh ScotRail passengers ‘left standing on peak train with only two carriages’

Edinburgh commuters were reportedly left “squished” together on a ScotRail train during peak times with only two carriages.

Passengers on the 7am service from Glenrothes to Edinburgh were left frustrated on Wednesday morning after people were forced to stand with no room left on the train.

Pictures show many people onboard standing within the aisle due to the lack of seats. One passenger claims another girl was “leaning” on her while others questioned whether the service was safe.

Edinburgh Live understands the train ran with fewer carriages due to the overrunning of engineering works.

One passenger told Edinburgh Live: “Chocka block train this morning. Two carriages on a peak time to Edinburgh.

“A girl is actually leaning on me. People were left at Inverkeithing and Dalmeny stations. We were all squished and I heard one tourist say “this can’t be safe”.

“It was a relief to get into Haymarket and get off. People were standing from Dunfermline City and by the time it got to Rosyth, everyone was squashed up.”

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “We know that one of the biggest concerns for our customers is busy trains, and we are sorry to any customer who experienced overcrowding on their journey. “
