Eight-mile diversion route in place as Cambridgeshire road to close for a week

A village road only a short drive from Cambridge is due to close to motorists next week. Conington Road, in Conington, will be shut for seven days from Wednesday (January 8) while roadworks take place.

The works will be carried out by Cambridgeshire County Council, which is carrying out carriageway surfacing on this stretch of road. These are scheduled to take place every day between the hours of 7.30am and 5pm.

The closure is due to last until Wednesday, January 15. Roadworks and a diversion route will be put in place during this period, with motorists being advised to plan their journeys accordingly if travelling during those times.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council said: “Conington Road, Conington, will be closed to all motor vehicles on the 8th – 15th January between the hours of 7.30am and 5pm daily for works.”

The diversion route will take motorists down Cambridge Road, Huntingdon Road, the A1307 Local Access Road, High Street and Elsworth Road. It is estimated that this will add around eight miles and 13 minutes onto journey times.
