Work is taking place between Dundee and Montrose, with all lines closed on Sunday as teams remove a footbridge in the Carnoustie area that has been deemed unsafe.
ScotRail trains from Glasgow Queen Street will only run as far north as Dundee and will be diverted via Cumbernauld, with replacement buses carrying passengers onward to Aberdeen.
Services from Edinburgh will only run as far north as Dundee.
The following weekend (Saturday 18 and Sunday 19) will see the line from Stirling to Perth closed for further engineering works, with passengers from Aberdeen to Glasgow facing extended journey times.
