A young Essex man’s death from a balcony fall while holidaying in Turkey was accidental, an inquest has concluded. Antony Maxwell, 21, from Heybridge near Maldon, died while overseas on a holiday with his girlfriend.
Mr Maxwell, who worked locally and was known by friends as Tony, was on holiday in Antalya, Turkey, in April 2024 when the tragic accident occurred. It was previously heard that he had been having a cigarette on a balcony on the fifth floor of a hotel when he fell.
Mr Maxwell, who worked as a crane supervisor, was rushed to hospital, but sadly, his life could not be saved, and his death was confirmed in the early hours of April 18 this year. On Wednesday (January 8), a documentary inquest held by Area Coroner Michelle Brown concluded the death was accidental.

A fundraising page set up by a family friend in the aftermath of the tragic accident raised more than £6,000. A tribute said: “Tony was an incredible young man, he loved his fishing and embraced life. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed.
“His death has shocked the family to the core. However, the generosity and compassion shown by everyone who knew Tony has made their darker days a little lighter. On behalf of the family, thank you for all your kindness.”
