Ex-police officer appears in court over alleged relationship with ‘vulnerable’ woman

A former Leicestershire Police constable has appeared in court over an alleged sexual relationship with a vulnerable woman he met while leading an investigation. Daniel Jackson faces one charge of misconduct in public office following an investigation by a police watchdog.

The 38-year-old appeared before Leicester Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, January 8) after he was charged with misconduct following the Independent Office for Police Conduct’s (IOPC) investigation. The watchdog said that the woman was in a “vulnerable situation” at the time of the alleged relationship.

Jackson, who resigned from Leicestershire Police in September 2022, is alleged to have “pursued personal contact and engaged in a sexual relationship” with the female. The IOPC said the charge relates to allegations between Tuesday, May 17 and Friday, June 10, 2022.

The IOPC began looking into Jackson’s alleged behaviour in June 2022 following a mandatory referral from Leicestershire. The watchdog conducted a three-month investigation before passing a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in September 2022, which then decided to charge Jackson.

Jackson, of Dewberry Court in Stenson Fields, on the outskirts of Derby, appeared in court wearing a navy suit and only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address, the Press Association reports. He was granted unconditional bail by district judge Nick Watson and is expected to enter a plea at Leicester Crown Court on Monday, February 24.
