One of America’s most wanted fugitives who was arrested in North Wales after 21 years on the run has today had his UK bank accounts frozen by a court.
Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, appeared before Llandudno magistrates’ court on a video link from top security HMP Belmarsh in London. Police sought a 12-month account freezing order for money held in Lloyds Bank accounts, pending further inquiries.
Zara Parry, a police financial investigator, said the accounts were in the name of Danny Webb, now identified as San Diego. Three accounts had balances totalling more than £20,000. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox.
San Diego is in custody, awaiting extradition to the US. District judge Gwyn Jones granted the police application for an account freezing order.
San Diego said: “Ultimately, without being able to speak to a solicitor, I wouldn’t want to make any representations because I don’t know the legalities of what’s happening.”
When the case ended he said: “Cool, thank you.”
He had been arrested in November by the National Crime Agency and North Wales police at a property at Maenan, near Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley, where he was believed to have lived under a false identity for a number of years.
San Diego was wanted by the FBI for allegedly bombing two office buildings in San Francisco in 2003. Authorities had been on San Diego’s trail since a federal warrant was issued in October 2003.
