Fire breaks out at Welsh holiday resort

An investigation has been launched following a caravan fire at a well-known Anglesey holiday spot. The blaze erupted within a static caravan situated in Trearddur Bay’s Lon Crecrist on Sunday evening (January 12).

Firefighting teams from three stations responded to the emergency at Bagnol Caravan Park, which is a short stroll from the renowned sandy beach of Trearddur. The park boasts 161 slots for static caravans and also provides space for touring caravans and motorhomes.

It is the larger of two affiliated parks, with Tyn Towyn Caravan Park offering an additional 55 pitches for static caravans nearby. Both sites are known for their wooden sculptures depicting various animals, birds, and figures made by the Australian artist Andy Hancock, who currently lives in Texas. Given that the static caravans are privately owned and considering the season, it is believed that the parks were unoccupied at the time of the incident. Footage from the scene show firefighters wearing breathing gear as they combat intense flames and dense, noxious smoke.

The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the static caravan involved was destroyed, reports North Wales Live. A spokesperson said: “We were called to a fire involving a static caravan on a caravan park in Lon Crecrist, Treaddur Bay at 18:46hrs on Sunday, January 12.”

“Three crews attended, and the fire caused 100% fire damage to the caravan. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

When approached for a statement, an employee from Bagnol Caravan Park stated it would not be appropriate to comment as the caravans are privately owned.
