Fire engines, police and gritters raced to a blaze as street in Coventry was cordoned off. A fire engine, two 4×4 response vehicles and police cars were spotted in Aldermans Green Road yesterday afternoon (January 8).
Part of the residential street was cordoned off while fire crews dealt with a blaze in a log cabin at a property. West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has confirmed that crews spent more than an hour tackling the flames.

Police had to cordon off part of the street and a gritting machine was called to the scene to ensure that the water used to fight the fire did not cause dangerous ice patches. A WMFS spokesperson told CoventryLive that the fire was started accidentally.
It is understood that an electrical heater caught fire within the log cabin. An electrician was called in to isolate the cabin’s electricity.
“Shortly after 3.15pm on Wednesday 8 January, we responded to Aldermans Green Road, Coventry,” the WMFS spokesperson said. “Two 4×4 brigade response vehicles and a fire engine from Foleshill and Binley responded, the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised.
“This was a fire in a log cabin on the grounds of a residential property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out at 4.30pm.
“It’s believed this fire started accidentally after an electrical heater caught fire. An electrician isolated the cabin’s electricity. Police colleagues were in attendance to assist with traffic management and Coventry City Council gritters were in attendance to grit the road due to the risk of water run-off freezing.”
