Fire started inside building at Bodmin College

Fire crews in Cornwall were called out in the early hours of this morning (January 4) to tackle a blaze started deliberately inside a school. Arsonists are suspected to have struck at Bodmin College shortly after midnight.

Two fire crews from Bodmin were called to the college and found a bin on fire in the lobby, as well as two separate fires within the building. It took over 90 minutes to put out the flames as they called for back-up and informed Devon and Cornwall Police.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 00.14 on 4th January 2025, two fire engines from Bodmin attended a building fire at Bodmin College.

“On arrival crews located a bin on fire in the lobby. Three seats of fire were discovered and extinguished using one hose reel jet. Crews were detained for over ninety minutes.

“This incident is being treated as suspected arson. Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 and quote incident number 24 of 04/01/2025.”
