A woman has been arrested following the death of a pensioner who was found seriously injured at a home in Hamilton. Officers from Police Scotland were called to a property on Gilmour Drive after the alarm was raised at around 8.25pm on Wednesday.
Ambulance crews attended but a 78-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The death is currently being treated as unexplained but a 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an assault. Forensic officers were pictured outside the property on Thursday.
Monica Lennon, MSP for Central Scotland, said: “This is extremely distressing news. It is upsetting to learn that a member of our community has died. My thoughts are with the family and those affected.
“I want to thank Police Scotland for their work at this difficult time and would ask people to be considerate and thoughtful as the community comes to terms with the loss of one of our own.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers remain at the scene and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers. A 49-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with assault. Enquiries are ongoing.”
